Research

Started the whole process with research on the brand. Investigating the products they currently produce and their commitment to express irish culture and design.

Mood Board

The mood board allows me to take inspiration from the natural materials, textures, earthy tones and the essence of irish heritage.

Ideation

Sketching

Using the research and investigation, I explored different ideas from designs inspired by Irish heritage, culture and history.

Concept One

A product inspired by an Ash Leaf and tree, a simplistic and minimalist multi-tool that resem, bles the open leaf branch design while being simple and

Concept Two

Inspired by the Golden Hair Ties from the Irish Bronze Age. This is a salt & pepper shaker that will interlock to roll around elegantly. It follows Stable's ideologies on their products with elegant and minimalistic design, making it a strong contender to be a concept product for them.

Prototyping

Concept Two

The prototype graph below showcases the evolution of the concept. I decided to further explore concept two, due to its rich Irish history and the simplistic/functional design. Which aligns with Stable's design principles.

These prototypes started off with low-fidelity paper models slowly evolving to card and then foam.

CAD Models

To further explore the concept and sustainably prototype, I started to iterate further on Solidworks and Shapr3D. This prevented me from wasting unnecessary materials on a concept I could iterate upon online.

It allowed me to explore the feasibility limitations to the design and how to work around them

Further Development

The images below showcase the development with all sorts of media and methods to finalise the final product.

How Does The Salt Shaker Work?

The salt and pepper will be in separate compartments held together with magnets, allowing users to easily split them apart when needed.

The Hair Tie design allows the product to roll elegantly on a table without spilling the spices. It does this because of the brass rings on both ends that spin freely.

Packaging

Iteration One

The packaging of the product is the best part of it. I aimed to explore the luxury of opening an ornate product, where I took inspiration from the infamous Apple packaging.

Iteration Two

To further iterate from the previous idea, I found it to use up a lot of material, which is not sustainable for packaging. It made it hard to extract the products from the packaging and overall was not pleasing to view.

Therefore I moved onto iteration two, which explored the playful aspect of packaging where it moves as you open it, while also being accessible to extract the salt and pepper shaker.
To finalise the packaging, a simple engraving of the brand would complete the look.
